Montessori inspired Program

At Under the Oaks Children's House, we partner with homeschooling families by providing enriching experiences that nurture the whole child in a peaceful, nature-filled setting. Our program complements learning at home through hands-on Montessori materials, individualized guidance, meaningful social interactions, and opportunities for discovery and creativity.

Nature & Outdoor Learning

Each day includes meaningful time outdoors, where nature becomes an extension of the classroom. Children might tend the garden, care for our chickens, collect leaves for a nature journal, observe insects and birds, build with natural materials, or simply spend time exploring under the oak trees. Seasonal scavenger hunts, simple science investigations, and hands-on projects encourage children to ask questions, make discoveries, and develop a deeper appreciation for the world around them.

Practical Life / Life Skills

One of the most meaningful parts of the Montessori classroom is practical life. Children spend time doing real work, which includes, preparing snacks, watering plants, washing tables, sweeping, polishing, arranging flowers, and practicing everyday skills like pouring, buttoning, and tying. These simple activities help children build independence, coordination, concentration, and confidence while giving them the satisfaction of caring for themselves and their environment.

Art, Music & Creative Expression

Creativity is a natural part of our days. Children have opportunities to paint at the easel, work with clay, create with natural materials, sing songs, explore rhythm and movement, and learn about artists through hands-on projects. We believe art is about the process, not the finished product, so children are free to experiment, make their own choices, and express themselves without the pressure of creating something "perfect." Along the way, they build confidence, creativity, and the joy of making something that's uniquely their own.

Small Group Learning Experiences

One of the most special parts of a Montessori classroom is the mixed-age community. Younger children naturally learn by watching and working alongside older classmates, often gaining confidence as they observe new skills and routines. At the same time, the oldest children have the opportunity to become gentle leaders and role models. It's not uncommon to see a six-year-old patiently reading a story to a four-year-old, helping a younger friend roll a work mat, or demonstrating how to care for classroom materials. These moments aren't forced, they happen naturally, creating a learning environment where children grow with one another, build meaningful friendships, and develop kindness, confidence, and a true sense of community.

Enrollment Options:

• 2 Days per Week (Tuesday’s & Thursday’s 9am-2pm)

• One-on-one evening instruction (Tuesday&Thursday) if needing more support on a specific subject/lesson.

School Year: September–May

We are currently not offering a Summer program/tutoring services, though this is something being discussed.
